🧬 About Diseases

Diseases are abnormal conditions that negatively affect the structure or function of part or all of an organism. In humans, diseases can be caused by pathogens (such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa), nutritional deficiencies, genetic disorders, or lifestyle-related factors. They may affect a specific organ or spread throughout the body and can be acute, chronic, infectious, or non-infectious in nature.

Infectious diseases, like tuberculosis, malaria, and AIDS, are caused by microbes and can spread from one person to another. These are often preventable through vaccination, sanitation, and hygiene practices. In contrast, non-infectious diseases like diabetes, cancer, and hypertension develop due to genetic mutations, environmental exposure, poor nutrition, or sedentary lifestyles.

Nutritional deficiency diseases like scurvy (Vitamin C deficiency), rickets (Vitamin D deficiency), and beriberi (Vitamin B1 deficiency) highlight the importance of a balanced diet. Autoimmune and genetic diseases such as Type 1 diabetes, hemophilia, and albinism show how the body’s own mechanisms or genetic code can sometimes lead to illness.

Studying diseases helps in early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention—ultimately leading to better public health. This quiz aims to challenge your understanding of diseases, their causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment methods.
